What Happens During Banana Roll Liposuction?

Liposuction is performed in our state-of-the-art, on-site surgical suite in Charlotte, North Carolina. For most patients, lipo doesn’t require general anesthesia. Instead, we use local anesthesia in small cases like banana roll liposuction, meaning you’ll be alert but remain pain-free. IV sedation, or “twilight anesthesia,” is also available.

Dr. Ditesheim begins the procedure by numbing the treatment area and making small incisions for the cannula to be inserted into the skin. This thin, hollow tube is used to suction out excess fat deposits and resculpt the area. Note that Dr. Ditesheim will carefully place your incisions to ensure they’re not easily seen once you’re fully healed.

Banana Roll Liposuction Recovery Timeline

If you’re bothered by the shape of your buttocks or how the top of your thighs looks in clothing or swimwear, banana roll lipo may be ideal. Here’s what you can expect in the days and weeks following your banana roll lipo procedure.

Immediately After Surgery: You must start wearing your compression garments following surgery to reduce swelling and support the healing process.

Pain After Surgery: Expect some pain, discomfort, and soreness after lipo. Most patients rely on pain medication to manage post-op discomfort. Swelling and bruising are also common after liposuction. The pain should subside within a few days.

Returning to Work: Patients with jobs that don’t require physical labor (office jobs) can usually return to work within a few days to a week.

Returning to Daily Activities: Light exercise is usually permitted after two weeks. However, don’t resume activity before getting the “green light” from Dr. Ditesheim. You should avoid strenuous exercise and heavy lifting for at least three weeks.
