What Size?
Did you know that breast implant sizes have almost nothing to do with bra cup sizes? Breast implants in Charlotte are sized in terms of volume, or how many “cc’s” of filling are contained in them. Each style of implant has sizes ranging from approximately 150cc to 750cc or more. The breast implant works together with your own breast tissue to create your new breast size.
Rather than focus on numbers, such as what cup size you want to be, we find the patients are happiest with their results when we focus on the overall aesthetic.
What do your breasts need to achieve the proportion, shape and fullness that looks like you? Only in answering these questions does implant size come into play. Quite often, patients need two different sized implants to achieve the closest symmetry.
It’s also important to consider your lifestyle. Are you a competitive tennis player or marathon runner? You may be happier going with more modest size implants that still achieve your desired results.
What Profile?
Implant profile is a measure how far the implant projects forward in relation to its base width, (think the part that sits on the chest wall). You’ll see it expressed in terms like low, moderate, moderate plus, and high. But it’s not a choice you can make independent of other options.
- Low Profile
- Moderate Plus
- High Profile
This is what helps Dr. Ditesheim create the right amount of cleavage, and ensures your breasts have a natural shape after augmentation.
The right profile for you will depend on your chest width and existing breast “footprint” as well as your desired size increase. Your implants need to have a base width that fits your natural breasts at the chest wall.
If you have a narrow chest width & natural breast base, you will need implants with a narrower base width too. As a result, you will probably need a higher profile implant to achieve the size increase you are looking for.
On the other end of the spectrum, if you are broad-chested, implants with a larger base width may be more appropriate. To augment to the right size, a lower profile implant will suffice, as you will be able to achieve your desired increase without the extra projection.
