Perhaps more than any other facial feature, our eyes tell the world how we feel. However, aging and heredity can cause the skin and tissues on our eyelids to sag and droop, making us look tired, sad or worried, even when we feel great. If your eyes are sending the wrong message, we can help you change that through an eyelid lift procedure in Charlotte, personalized to your needs.
An eyelid lift can help you look years younger & more alert, and can even improve field of vision.
Patients typically return to work within 1 week after surgery
After listening to your goals and concerns at your consultation, Dr. Ditesheim will determine the specific method to use for your procedure based on your facial features.
Eyelid surgery is frequently combined with other facial procedures to further enhance your results. Non-surgical treatments, such as Botox & injectable fillers or fat grafting, can help to smooth crow’s feet or other wrinkles or diminish dark circles under your eyes.
Our suite is certified with the highest level of accreditation by the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities, Inc. (AAAASF).

The most common candidates for an eyelid lift, or blepharoplasty, are men or women who notice signs of aging in their face that cause their upper eyelids to droop or under-eye bags to form. Some candidates for eyelid surgery simply have naturally drooping eyelids that can cause them to look permanently tired or even limit their scope of vision. Ideal candidates for blepharoplasty are nonsmokers who are in good physical and mental health and have realistic expectations about their results.
While some blepharoplasty patients choose to combine upper and lower eyelid surgery for a more comprehensive approach to facial rejuvenation, others may only require one or the other to meet their cosmetic goals. Upper and lower eyelid surgery differ in the area of focus and the techniques used:nnUpper eyelid surgery lifts the upper eyelids to create a more alert and refreshed appearance. This is done by removing excess skin and fatty tissue, gently tightening the small muscles in the upper eye area, and finally suturing the skin and musculature into place.nnLower eyelid surgery focuses primarily on resolving the appearance of under-eye bags. Fatty tissue under the eyes can be reallocated or removed to form a smoother under-eye appearance and the muscles can be tightened into a more youthful position before tightening the lower eyelid skin and removing any excess.
Because the focus of blepharoplasty is primarily on excess eyelid skin, fatty tissue and skin position, eyelid surgery does not smooth out the small horizontal wrinkles that can form at the outer edges of the eyes, known as crow’s feet. Crow’s feet form as a result of repeated muscle movements, often from smiling, laughing or squinting. Many blepharoplasty patients choose to combine eyelid surgery with BOTOX® Cosmetic in order to address crow’s feet as well as sagging eyelids.
The results of eyelid surgery, whether focused on the upper or lower eyelids, are designed to be long-lasting. However, it’s important to remember that the elasticity of your skin and the quality of your underlying facial muscles will continue to change in response to age and environmental factors. Eyelid surgery patients are recommended to protect the skin surrounding their eyes with regular moisturizing and sun protection to maintain their results as well as possible.
Because eyelid surgery only requires small incisions in naturally well-hidden areas, the scars from blepharoplasty should be barely noticeable after healing. In the case of upper eyelid surgery, the incisions are placed within the natural crease of the eyelids. During lower eyelid surgery, the incisions are hidden just beneath the lower lash line. Patients may see some pinkness around the site of the incisions immediately following surgery, but this should fade quickly in the weeks and months after surgery.
You should notice a difference in the area surrounding your eyes immediately following your eyelid surgery, although post-surgical swelling and discoloration may initially obscure your final outcome. While many blepharoplasty patients return to work after 1 to 2 weeks, it may take several weeks for your swelling to subside completely. You should be able to see your final results from eyelid surgery in about 4 to 6 weeks following your surgery.
