Every person’s body is created differently. Some people have a naturally strong jawline, while others are not as lucky. Weight changes and aging can affect the lines of your neck, leaving you unhappy with the neck you used to love. Neck contouring in Charlotte can help women and men attain a better silhouette.
This facial plastic surgery can take you from a weak, frumpy, shapeless neck and jaw to a beautifully defined and refined neck. It can even change how you view your face. Learn more about this procedure and discover whether it is right for you during an initial consultation with our board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Jeffrey Ditesheim.
Neck contouring is not one specific surgery. What is done surgically is determined by your aesthetic goals. For some patients, your neck and chin may be completely reshaped while for others, a simpler decrease in your turkey wattle is all that is needed. The main components of a neck contouring surgery can involve:
After the surgery, your neck will look more toned and have a better-defined shape. Many of our Charlotte patients feel that they look more youthful and are more confident after their neck contouring procedure.
Our neck contouring procedures in Charlotte are routinely performed in an outpatient setting. You will return home later the same day, so bring a trusted family or friend with you as you will not be able to drive after the surgery.
You and Dr. Ditesheim will determine the exact type of anesthesia before surgery. You may even only need local anesthetic with IV sedation. Surgery can last up to three hours, depending on what all will be done. Rest assured that you will be kept comfortable the entire time.
You may need some help in the first few days after surgery because your neck movement will be limited. Make sure that children, pets, parents, and spouses will all have the care they need, as you will need to focus on your own recovery. Returning to work will depend on what is done surgically and what your job entails. Major surgery combined with a job that requires frequent head turning may mean a longer time out of work; however, most of our patients return to work within two weeks of their neck contouring surgery in Charlotte.
After surgery, you will wear a neck compression garment to help your neck tissues adapt to their new positions. It can also help keep swelling and bruising down. Limiting twisting and bending your neck for the first two weeks is important to allow proper healing. You will notice neck tightness, but pain is rarely a problem. Over time, you will be able to decrease the tightness with appropriate stretching.
It may be difficult to see the results of your surgery for the first ten to fourteen days. As swelling decreases, your new neckline will appear. Final results can take up to three or four months because minor amounts of swelling can linger. However, the changes in your neck will be permanent.
It is still important to maintain good skin care, including avoiding sun exposure and living a healthy lifestyle. While you cannot stop natural aging, you can take steps to maintain your results and keep your neck in great shape.
When performed by a highly qualified and expertly trained plastic surgeon, such as Dr. Ditesheim, neck contouring in Charlotte can result in dramatic improvements.
If you are unhappy with the appearance of your neck or chin, schedule a consultation to find out what is possible. An improved neck contour could make you look younger and more refined while also boosting your self-confidence. Contact us today to learn more.
