Every woman deserves to have a beautiful body. Having discomfort from heavy breasts or embarrassment from a hanging tummy can be addressed through cosmetic surgery. Tummy tucks for plus-size women, or combination mommy makeover procedures, can help people achieve a renewed sense of empowerment and self-confidence.
This 38-year-old woman was frustrated with her breasts and her body. As a young woman who had finished giving birth to children, she wanted to feel young and beautiful. Her heavy and uncomfortable breasts (38DDD bra) were a daily physical and emotional handicap. Loose skin and a hanging abdominal section caused her to avoid social activities. No exercise or diet she could do on her own could restore a youthful body and confidence. Her stated goal: “I want to be more comfortable with my body.”
One question identified early on in the consultation process was whether to undergo just one or several procedures to obtain a more youthful body contour. The discussion hinged on whether the patient was a good candidate based on a physical examination and medical history evaluation by board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Jeffrey Ditesheim. Once understanding that there were multiple body areas that could benefit from plastic surgery procedures, Dr. Ditesheim moved forward with plans for a mommy makeover, rather than just a tummy tuck. stretch marks
A tummy tuck, while potentially helpful, could not address the negative side effects of the large breasts, and wasn’t helpful enough on its own to restore a youthful figure. Tummy tuck surgery is better suited when a woman’s body has excess skin and/or weakened abdominal muscles but the rest of the figure apart from the midsection is satisfactory. In this case, to correct the overly large, sagging breasts, breast surgery was also recommended.
A mommy makeover is a combination of procedures that will restore the beauty of the breasts and the body. For this patient, breast reduction, tummy tuck, and liposuction were performed in one surgical session. Immediately after the breast reduction (from bra 38DDD to 38D), the pain she had experienced was gone!
An extended tummy tuck (a tummy tuck for plus-sized patients) corrected the muscle and inner core weakness. This restored support to the back and helped improve posture. Aquashape liposuction is a gentle liposuction technique that uses a water jet to facilitate the removal of excess abdominal fat cells. Removing fat rolls and bulges in the bra area, the waist, and under the arm really helped to shape the body.
Combining multiple procedures in one session has the advantage of getting more done at once, with one round of recovery. For some women, this is safe and reasonable. When mommy makeover patients have a higher risk due to smoking, diabetes, obesity, or other medical issues, it may be safer to have two 3-4 hour surgical sessions than one 6-7 hour session. Safety is always the first priority.
Mommy makeovers are highly personalized treatment plans that address a wide range of body contour concerns. They are not always used on people who are overweight, as perhaps the most common surgical procedure requested is breast augmentation rather than reduction. And not all mommy makeovers are completely surgical, as certain concerns, like stretch marks, are better addressed with non-surgical options like microneedling.
At the end of the day, Dr. Ditesheim offers fully customizable mommy makeover surgery for those looking for dramatic restoration of a slimmer and more youthful body contour.
