Every woman should love her breasts and feel they are what she wants them to be. He helps you pick the right procedure and implants instead of delegating that role to a staff member.

No Regrets!

I have absolutely no regrets about having this surgery at age 17. I look and feel so much better. My back pain went away almost immediately, which was a huge relief. I am really happy with it and I think that it was one of the best decisions that I have ever made.

Types of Breast Implants

Breast augmentation and asymmetry correction typically require breast implants to change a patient’s natural shape, size, and volume. However, several options for breast implants offer different benefits and drawbacks. The first factor Dr. Ditesheim considers is the implant material which is silicone or saline. Specifically, silicone implants contain a gel material, while saline implants contain saline fluid similar to what your body produces.

Silicone breast implants are made with a gel material that looks and feels more like natural breast tissue than saline implants. Alternatively, saline implants offer greater size customization to patients. While there are differences that affect the final result, neither type of breast implant lasts forever and they eventually need to be replaced. When breast implants must be replaced will depend on the manufacturers’ recommendations and how the body responds to them.

Dr. Ditesheim has used the current generation of silicone implants for more than 15 years to enhance or restore breast volume for natural beauty, rather than to simply make breasts bigger. He achieves this by using a wide range of different sizes, shapes, fills, and projections to reach your goals.

Breast Augmentation

If it’s larger breasts you desire, breast augmentation can help you get just the look you’re looking for. Dr. Ditesheim will help you choose the right breast implants to achieve a natural-looking increase in breast size that enhances your natural proportions and body frame. His experience and expertise help people feel at ease and confident that they will get a naturally beautiful result from their breast surgery in Charlotte.

Breast Implant Options

There’s plenty of chatter about what type of breast implant is best, but the answer is, whatever gives you the results you desire. Each implant type has advantages and unique characteristics. What it boils down to is the specific look and feel you would be happiest with.

Breast Lift

Pregnancy, weight loss, or aging can result in stretched, sagging breasts. A breast lift cosmetic surgery can restore a more youthful, attractive breast shape while helping you look and feel better in clothing and make bras more comfortable.

The surgery raises and reshapes the breast tissue to address the issues and improve contour and firmness. The procedure helps boost your self-image and self-confidence in swimwear and clothing.

Breast Lift with Implants

If you’re wondering whether breast implants are “enough” to address sagging, then a combination breast lift with augmentation might be the perfect option when you’re looking for the best plastic surgery Charlotte offers. This popular post-pregnancy or post-weight loss aesthetic surgery can restore a breast contour you love and boost your confidence too!

Breast Reduction

Having breasts that are too large for your body can trigger back, neck, or shoulder pain, limit your clothing choices, or keep you from fully enjoying an active lifestyle. Whether you’re suffering from these symptoms or you just wish you had smaller breasts, Dr. Ditesheim can help you reduce to a size that better fits your body and your lifestyle with a potentially life-changing surgical procedure.

His approach is distinguishable from others in the surgical field because it focuses on eliminating discomfort, minimizes scarring, and allows a patient to determine which size feels right for her, rather than arbitrarily reducing them to the smallest size to satisfy insurance requirements. This makes him the best choice for breast surgery patients in Charlotte.

Lollipop Breast Reduction

A lollipop breast reduction is an advanced technique that has less noticeable scarring while lifting, reducing, and reshaping the breasts. This relieves symptoms like neck, back, or shoulder pain and offers a shorter recovery period compared to other breast reduction techniques. It also reshapes and reduces the breasts so they are proportional to the patient’s body.

Breast Implant Revision Surgery

Unhappy with the way your previous breast augmentation looks now? Whether you’re experiencing problems with your breast implants, you want a change in size, or your breast implants no longer fit your body after pregnancy or weight loss, we can help. Frequent cases of implant revision that we see include deflation, capsular contraction, implants being too high on the chest, or simply because the women’s bodies have changed over the years (especially after having children) since they first got them.

Breast Asymmetry Correction

It’s rare to find a gal with perfectly even breasts, but if asymmetry bothers you, we can help! Through a personalized breast procedure – augmentation, lift, and/or reduction, Dr. Ditesheim can help you achieve beautiful breasts that are much more even in shape, size, and position.

Cosmetic Differences from Implants

In addition to deciding between silicone or saline breast implants, there are several cosmetic differences to consider as well. For instance, breast implants come in a round or a teardrop shape. The current silicone implants, also called “gummy bear” implants contain more cohesive silicone – or thicker – than previous generations of silicone implants. These are less likely to ripple or wrinkle and hold their shape and position better. While they are still under study, it is exceedingly rare to have a true rupture.

Saline implants use the same “bag” or “shell” but are filled at the time of surgery with sterile saline (saltwater). Once inside the body, the saline implants relax and can sometimes cause upper pole rippling. Therefore, saline implants are best placed under the muscle. Round and teardrop shapes offer a wide selection of choices. The art of breast augmentation is about customizing the implant for each woman.

Another cosmetic consideration for breast implants is the profile, which can be individualized from low-profile to ultra-high profile to enhance breast projection from the chest wall. Specifically, low implant profiles add minor volume to the breast’s projection, while high-profile implants offer significantly more prominent volume. The profiles – flatter, rounder, or more dome-like – are designed to complement different women’s breasts. The ideal breast implant compliments the native breast to provide the best width and projection that matches your body frame and physique.

Benefits of Breast Surgery

Breast surgeries offer several physical and psychological benefits. Women in Charlotte who are dissatisfied with their breast size or shape can enhance their body proportion and boost their self-image. They enjoy greater confidence in clothing and improved body image.

A breast reduction can reduce physical discomfort, such as back, neck, and shoulder pain. It can also lead to improved posture, reduced lower back pain from poor posture, and allow greater physical activity. Breast lifts address sagging tissue and restore a more youthful contour and firmness that enhances a woman’s overall appearance and self-assurance.

In addition to aesthetics, breast surgery can also help correct asymmetry or congenital deformities that then contribute to a more balanced figure. There are significant psychological benefits and many women express increased satisfaction with their appearance and a positive impact on their overall quality of life.

Breast Surgery FAQs

A good candidate for breast surgery is someone who is dissatisfied with the size or shape of their breast tissue or would like to have asymmetry corrected. The ideal candidate is in good general health without any underlying medical conditions that may increase the risk of complications during or after surgery. For example, uncontrolled heart conditions, diabetes, or peripheral vascular disease may increase the risk of anesthesia or impair healing. Finally, you must be a non-smoker or willing to give up smoking for six weeks before and after the procedure. Tobacco and nicotine increase the potential risk for complications during surgery, impair healing, and increase the risk of infection.

A breast augmentation lasts for as long as the implant remains in place. According to the manufacturer’s recommendations, implants must be replaced every five to 15 years. The length of time depends on the implant, the manufacturer, and how the body responds to them. The natural aging process continues, which means you may need a breast lift at a future date as well as the breast tissue stretches and your breasts naturally begin to sag.

Breast surgery is generally considered safe. There are a few potential complications that should be considered. Over time, additional surgeries may be needed to replace implants or address changes such as capsular contracture or, rupture or leakage. Capsular contracture happens when scar tissue forms around the implant and causes the breast tissue to harden and become misshapen. Implant rupture or leakage generally requires surgery to replace or remove them. As with any surgical procedure, there is a risk of infection, which may necessitate antibiotics. Over time, the implant position may shift, leading to an asymmetrical appearance. While every effort is made to minimize scars, visible scarring can occur.

The length of time to recover from breast surgery varies between people. Generally, most people experience swelling and soreness within the first one to two days. After the first week, you are typically able to resume light activities but must continue to wear support garments and keep your arms down to reduce the stress on the incisions. By the fourth week, you can resume light exercise, but any heavy lifting or strenuous activity must continue to be avoided. The final results of the surgery are typically not visible until six to 12 months when the swelling is fully resolved and the implants have settled into position.

Breast surgery can affect breastfeeding, but the extent varies based on several factors. If you are not done having children and are planning another pregnancy, it’s important to communicate this with the doctor. The incision location can disrupt milk ducts and nerves, interfering with milk production and delivery. When you think you may be breastfeeding in the future, a different surgical approach will be used that is less likely to impact breastfeeding.

Implants placed under the chest wall muscle are less likely to affect milk ducts and glandular tissue and, therefore, less likely to impact breastfeeding. There are also individual variations between women and between breasts. Some women naturally have more glandular tissue and milk ducts that are preserved after surgery and, therefore, do not have significant issues with breastfeeding. Complications from breast augmentation, such as a change in sensation or capsular contracture, may interfere with breastfeeding.

There are several factors to consider when choosing the right type and size of breast implant for augmentation. You and Dr. Ditesheim will discuss those factors, including your body proportion and frame, lifestyle considerations, and personal goals. How the implant will be placed and the implant profile will also be considered.
